evolutionaryimperative: (Wasn't listening)

Gabriel hadn't asked Elle whether it was okay if he showed up at the club again or not. He didn't ask because he knew the answer was no. But he didn't care. If other men were going to oogle what belonged to him, he was at least going to sit there and watch and make sure that nobody tried anything.

He had tried staying away for the first couple of days after spending the whole day at her apartment, but it hadn't went well. He usually ended up at another strip club, with another blonde, and it at all went to hell from there. Two more had been reported missing in the last week because of him. He was making patterns which was never a good thing. He didn't want to get caught, after all. He had been doing this for too long to start getting sloppy now.

So instead he was back to Elle's strip club for the night, sitting in the back like he used to always do. He was nursing his second glass of scotch and carefully watching the surroundings for any funny business. No one had taken Elle into any of the private rooms for the evening yet, there was at least that to be glad about.

He was wearing one of his normal after work outfits of black pants and a dark blue button down shirt, complete with his his leather jacket. Nothing special. Nothing that would grab anyone's attention.

"It's fine," He waved off her concern as he finished cleaning her off. He set the towel aside on the floor for now and lied next to Elle, wrapping his arms around her waist. "I got some sleep while you were working. I don't open the shop until 9." He quirked a grin. "Plus, as my own boss, if I'm late? No one gets angry."

She smiled, happy he didn't plan on leaving too soon, and too tired to dwell on why. She shifted closer, her eyes barely blinking open as she nestled against him. "I didn't know you owned the place," she murmured. Then again, it's not like he had to call in sick last time, and he hadn't mentioned a boss. "Should've realized."

He nodded a little, holding her close. He wanted to lie here with her for a little while. He didn't want to dwell on why either. "Gray Watch Repairs." The original shop in New York had been Gray and Son, but considering his father had abandoned his family and all that, when he opened his own place he dropped the son.

"Cute," she said dryly, with a soft smirk, letting herself drift off for a moment, simply laying in his arms. It was a nice way to fall asleep, she thought. Better than alone in front of a television. "Have you always lived here?" she mumbled curiously, thinking about his little dorky shop. Hadn't he said it was a family business, too? But he didn't seem like a native. He was a loner, as far as she could tell. No family, no friends to speak of, although then again he hardly spoke at all.

"No, I used to live in New York. Queens, to be exact," It took all his self control not to tense up at the question. He didn't like to think about his past, about the mother he had left behind, and the other more clouded memories that seemed hazy at best. But if he couldn't remember then easily, he was pretty sure that was for the best.

That was good enough. She didn't like talking about her past either, and the mention of New York made her a little nauseous. She found herself clinging to him a little tighter without planning to, her lingering smile pulled down by a slight frown.

"I lived in Manhattan," she murmured. And even though it stirred up memories she couldn't think about, the thought that they'd been close--somehow, someway--their entire lives made her feel okay. Balanced enough to ignore the darkness at the edges of her consciousness, as if he were that link to reality.

"Will you be here when I wake up?" she whispered, changing the subject.

He shook his head lightly. He's like to stay here and have breakfast and play house with her like he did before, but he couldn't. He couldn't afford to. "No, probably not."

He hesitated for a moment before adding. "But if you want, I can leave you the address to my shop. You could meet me for lunch."

She was murmuring a soft "okay" before she could even think it over--because she wanted to see him, and that was simple at the moment, when she was half-asleep, drifting deeper every second.

"Alright," He whispered softly, nestling against her and closing his eyes. He could at least sleep with her for a little while before getting up to go to work.
